You'll Be Glad You Did

Wednesday, April 9, 2003

Hi everyone! Let's catch up with our host, Eric. With a theme post, no less! Why, you are spoiled! Okay, not really, but, yeah, whatever.

Check this post out. You'll be glad you did. (See that! A theme! Isn't it nice?)
I've been on an artistic rampage for the past week or so. Something tripped and I've been really inspired and really obsessive about art since -- which I'm loving. I mean, seriously, obsessive. It's almost all I can think about. It's really the way I want to be. It's how I grow as an artist, all that.

The first catalyst? The lovingly hand made screen printed posters by 2 dudes working out of a basement in St. Paul. Who are they? They are Aesthetic Apparatus. Okay, so the name's a little clunky, but whatever, the work is really very incredibly terrific. It's well done, it's edgy, it's... I can't possibly say enough good things about their posters and their style and how much they inspire me. So I'll stop trying.

Check them out, you'll be glad you did. (Aren't themes fun!?)
I've been reading a new book lately. Actually, it's catalyst #2.

Intrigued? I bet you are, my devilish little friends.

My buddy Ross recommended it to me, so I thought I'd give it a nice little read-y read. Live From New York An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live, by Tom Shales and James Andrew Miller.

Live From New York is the story of SNL from inception to modern day, all as told through interviews with its stars, writers and guests. It's compelling. It's intriguing. It's Oops I Crapped My Pants! Wait -- it's not that. It's inspiring to see the vision that the people had and go through actually making it happen with them. It's hard to put this book down. Aaand it's 565 pages long -- good lord!

In spite of, or, actually, probably because of the depth of the story and and the new perspective (it's told from the people it's about!) and all the information and the entertainment value, I whole heartedly recommend this book. I'm just now getting into the SNL era I grew up watching (Hartman, Carvey, Farley, etc), so you can imagine how much I'm loving this book. I'm at page 333, in case you're keeping track. And I know you're not. So stop fooling around. Anway, Live From New York...

You should check it out. You'll be. Glad. You did. *ding!*
The new White Stripes cd (Elephant) rocks. Hard.

On my first listen, I wasn't quite sure if I liked it or not, but after my second listen, I realized that I had been an idiot during the first listen and was completely wrong. Yes, even by being unsure, I was completely wrong. The album is terrific. It's rock -- times 10. Or times Pi. That's not the point. The point is that it rocks, it's great. You should...

Check it out, (say it with me now!) you'll be glad you did. *ding*
Sometimes I eat food. The other night, Lins and I ate Quorn's chicken-style nuggets for the first time. They are awesome. Yummy breading, yummy fungus on the inside. All around yum. They are, by far, Lins and my favorite vegetarian "chicken" nuggets.

Check those out. You'll be glad you did. (Yeah, that was kind of weak. Sorry about that!) *half-assed ding*
In other news, the people at the ER are starting to call Lindsay and I by name when we walk in the door. Hey! Lindsay and Eric! What's wrong with Lindsay this time? *cue laugh track* Okay, not really, but, you know, kinda.

Why? Well, crap, here goes: the dogs got in a fight, in bed, one week ago today at 3am in the morning. See, you already knew this wasn't going anywhere sunny, didn't you? Yes, well, this happened between L & I while we were in a dead sleep. Lindsay woke up first and yelled and tried to push them both down so that they couldn't hurt each other. Her hand got caught in the middle and she ended up getting 2 dime sized wounds that needed 5 stitches to put back together again. Ugh.

I could elaborate, but, you know, not an event I fully want to relive.

Suffice it to say, until Freddy gets adopted, we aren't letting both of the dogs sleep with us in bed at the same time. One at a time, every other night. *sigh* Doggie Tensions are running at an all time high because Bailey does not like not being in control of everything and every dog in the house. And we still haven't had a face-to-face between her and Freddy. And we won't. So, yeah, it's annoying, it's stupid, it's.. Yeah. I don't want to talk about it much more.

If I could, I'd wish that Oscar and Bailey would never fight again. It breaks my heart.

It breaks my heart even more when Lindsay, who means the world to me, gets hurt because of it.

Way to end it on a high note, asswipe! Hey! Thanks!

So, um, in closing: Check out your local ER sometime at 3:30am. You'll be, uh, glad you did. *ding!*

And now we've come full circle. Time for me to shut up now. Love you all!
Eric
