Fantasy Hoops

Friday, February 7, 2003

I love NBA basketball. This year, thanks to the advice from Slam Online, I tried Sporting News Fantasy Hoops.

Here's how it works: You have a salary cap of $30 million and you buy players based on market value (a very slick system) to fill out a team of 2 guards, 2 forwards, a center and a 6th man -- if your players go up in value, you can spend that much over the $30 million cap. So if you have a player and more users start to buy that player, he goes up in value. Very very cool. Let's say, for example, you picked up Ricky Davis before people caught onto the fact that he's awesome this year (like I did!). You bought him at $4.42 million. Now he's worth $6.02 million. You made $1.6 million for your team. Now you can spend $31.6 million on your team. Right? Right.

For some reason, the people running the game decided to end the season at the All Star break, recalibrate all the players' salaries and start over. So the first season is officially over as of today. How did I do? I rocked that shit, kid! Okay, even I have no clue what that last sentence meant. I think it means I did well. Right?

Let's see: worldwide, there are 295,559 people playing this game. With last night's games yet to be counted, I'm at 8,999 out of 295,559 people. Oh, yeah. I'm at least in the top 3%. Woo hoo!
I apologize for the lack of photos this week -- the temperature in Mpls has been hovering around 0° all week. Not exactly conducive to outdoor photo taking. You know, what I like to do and all. I could bundle up with the scarf and the hat and the gloves -- but damn I'm lazy. I'd also whine about being cold a lot. And none of us want that.

I have been updating my 3D photos, though. Man -- I'm loving the process of making them.

I'm also loving the process of loving you, dear people. Send some love back my way! It won't hurt -- I promise!

Love you!
Eric
