M&M's or Reese's Pieces?
Let's take a closer look inside that ever-so-frenzied debate, shall we? On the one hand we have M&M's. Every year a new-ish ad campaign. Every 2 years a new color comes in (Purple? You've gotta be kidding me!) and a trusty old color leaves (I still think about you, Tan. I do.). Plain becomes Milk Chocolate. And hey, since people love to eat moving, talking, living things, M&M's have big giant versions of the candies with arms and legs that talk and are sarcastic and dumb and funny and -- hey! I wanna eat that! Who, at the M&M Death Factory -- Who in God's name -- has the job of removing all the tiny arms and all the tiny legs from all the dead M&M's? Poor defenseless only-wanting-to-make-us-happy candy-friends. Why must you die? Why? The horror! The horror! On the other hand, there's Reese's Pieces. Have they changed -- ever? Think about it. Always the same orange packaging with the little clear window. Always the same less-chemically-charged colors: yellow, orange and brown. Always Peanut Butter flavored. Does it get any better than trusty old Reese's Pieces? Well friend, whenever I see them in a vending machine, I think "Hey, they're still around! Rock!" and I put in my 65 cents and out comes pure peanut butter and chocolate magic -- just like I remembered it. Then I look over at the M&M dispenser -- it's dominated by teal. Teal?! I'll kick it old school and stick to my Reese's, thank you. Thanks for stopping by, Eric |
