Zero Zero, Love LoveMonday, July 15, 2002
A couple years back, Lindsay and I played tennis almost every night of the week. There was a nice set of completely enclosed courts close to our apartment. Since it was completely enclosed, we could take Oscar and Bailey with us. The only drawback? Since there were 2 courts, we'd often have to leash the dogs against the fence. Bailey was not a fan of this and would yelp until we could 1) unleash them or 2) go home. So we've been on the lookout for an enclosed tennis court, with just one court. We didn't find one last year, when we played only a couple times. This year? We just found our court on Saturday, baby. Bling!
If there's a sport that Lindsay and I are fairly evenly matched in -- if you don't count air hockey as a sport, that is -- it's tennis. Every year when we first start playing, it starts like this -- I'll beat her 6-1 or 6-2 the first couple times out. Then it will inch its way up to 6-3 and 6-4. After the 6th or so time out, we're even again. Saturday, I beat Lindsay's ass (and the rest of her) 6-1. Note to self: Savor kicking her ass in tennis. It doesn't last. Hee. Remember, she has a monster serve. (I'm not kidding -- Sampras-esque) On Sunday, Lins and I played doubles against Kristi and Kate, the K&K Connection. Leading up to the match, they talked about how badly they sucked and we reassured them that, hey, we suck, too. We promptly beat them 6-0, 6-1. Oops. There were a lot of dueces, though, so the score could have been much much closer. If only they'd have kept hitting to Lindsay... Hee. To make things interesting, we had a dog darting around the court during the match, too. We brought Guhl with, and she chases and chases and chases the balls. She'll chase the ball that's in use and snatch it as quickly as she can and then she'll drop the ball that she picked up from the previous point -- that one she had in her mouth the during the entire chase. She's fast and quick with it, too. Every once in awhile, she'll drop the ball in her water bowl, too. It's pretty cute, really. 2 years ago, she got so good at retrieving the in-game ball that she'd catch lobs -- and sometimes -- serves right out of the air during a point. Do over, anyone? The best thing about taking Guhl to play tennis is that she finally relaxes after, and the next day. Today Guhl is pooped out. She's moving slowly and sleeping a lot, according to reports from the homefront. Hopefully the tennising will continue -- it's a good time. Lins, K&K and I watched most of Robin Williams Live on Broadway last night. We had to cut it short to watch Crank Yankers, of course, but Robin was really good. Really funny. Really engaging. His standup is so much more edgy than the family movie crap he's been churning out. I was very happy to hear him take stands on views and put himself out there. I really needed a dose of that Robin Williams. Very good stuff. All the positives aside, can that man have like 38 more bottles of water on the stage with him? Good lawd, that's a lotta watta. A little about this site: About a year ago, I decided to let my family into more of my day-to-day life, and the focus of this site became a sort of daily open journal. Lately, whenever I've done anything new, art-wise, I've thrown it on here, too. Well, now I have a new project, and I think it's pretty cool. I just bought a new FujiFilm FinePix 4900 camera, thanks to an unexpected check from the guv'mint. Thank you guv'mint! As you could likely guess, I've been snap snap snappin away every day since I finally got it, Friday. Now, this site has shifted from being a just a daily open journal to Eric Neely's Photo Project, with a side of journal-ism (Current Post) thrown in so that those who care can still see what I'm up to. Go check it out, if you wish. Feedback on the Photo Project? Email me! Eric |
