Speeding, Lounging and RentingFriday, May 10, 2002
Here's a little tidbit I forgot to mention on my April 26 post: I got my first speeding ticket in, oh, I don't know, about 8 years.
I was going 12 over. Damn me and my crazy streak! Lindsay and I watched Mulholland Drive Wednesday night. What a screwed up movie. I still am not sure what I think about it -- I'm still kind of confused, frankly. Right now, I'd rate it 7/10, but that could change if I watch it again. At one point during the movie, this killer killer lounge music is in the background -- I was totally digging it. So I did a little bit of digging and found out that it's Milt Buckner's The Beast. Since I'm a good guy and all, I've put it up for download here (PC users right click the link and "save as"). Nice of me to give you the song, I know. You can thank me later, because you've just downloaded the theme music for the rest of your life. It's that good. Since I was so enthralled with that song, I went all Nancy Drew on the Beast yesterday online and found a whole bunch of similar music -- Just a second -- maybe I went all Hardy Boys on it. I don't know -- that's not the point, really. What did you find? What did you find? Well friend, I found the Ultra-Lounge series. Rock! -- I mean. Um. -- Lounge! Then I found Esquivel!, an early stereo cheesey background-bachelor-space-lounge-pop with some great oddities thrown in for a good time. Good stuff there, too. I also work with Cat, who knows all about anything like this. Anything obscure, really. So I asked her what all was in the vein of The Beast... She recommended Ultra-Lounge (Man I'm good) and sent me a link to Combustible Edison's I, Swinger. I'm going to check that out today. When Lindsay and I moved into our current house in October of 2000, the owners were raving about this kickass little video store called TNT. Cheap movies! Nice people! Yes, that's all well and good, but we are snotty and we have DVD capabilities and all that. So we didn't go. And didn't go. And didn't go. Finally yesterday, with Lindsay out of town (good riddance, you rotten brat!), I stopped at TNT on the way to the store (for orange juice, bread and veggie burgers -- I repeated that in my head so many times that it stuck. See also: pinto, aduki and black beans -- the grocery list from 3 weeks ago.). You know what friends? TNT has DVDs. DVDs at TNT. And you know what else? There fricking cheap as hell! Basically, they're due the next day at 10pm and it only costs $1.70. For new releases! The slightly older ones are $1.40! How cute and cool and kickass is that? America, I've found my new spot for DVD rental action. Ah yeah. So last night I rented Made and Crazy/Beautiful. Did you watch them both? Hey there! Nope... I only watched Crazy/Beautiful -- from about midnight to 1:45am -- Hey, I had to watch the Sacramento-Dallas game! You know me! The fiancee is gone and I can watch sports all day long! Whee! I'm, uh, still watching cooking shows and shit, though. Ha. Crazy/Beautiful, Eric? Ah. Yes. It was an okay movie. Here are a couple of my thoughts: *Kirsten Dunst's character had a Lomo camera! Just like mine! *Kirsten's character never ever ever washed her hair. *Kirsten is cuuuuuute. *I love the underwear she's wearing in the flick too. Supercute. *The movie jumps ahead with assumptions in spots: she's supposedly ruining his life, but they only show him miss one meeting and that's it. That's ruining his life? *Kirsten, Jay Hernandez and the dude that played Senator Kelly in X-Men all do an excellent job with the acting. Good stuff. I'd rate the movie 5/10. It's a good rental/HBO flick. That's all I've got for now... talk to you next week! Eric |
