Reasons I Love

Wednesday, April 10, 2002

I love love love Springtime.

Eric, what are your feelings on Daylight Savings Time? Rocks the house, kid!

I'm developing a major case of Spring Fever, which, for me, is completely normal. I want to start jogging again a.s.a.p. I want want want (why have I been saying the same thing 3 times in a row a lot lately?) to play basketball. Really badly. I've got a plan, too.

I know that last year, I laid out a short term goal for basketball. I wanted to be able to dunk. I'm 6 foot 2 and, at the time, I weighed about 250 pounds. I've got a decent amount of muscle and athletic ability. I figured that I should be able to do it. I believed the block to be a mental one. I trained all summer with playing, running and light weight lifting. Unfortunately, I haven't reached my goal -- yet. Fortunately, I dropped about 40 pounds from all the training. I'm at 210 right now. This summer, I'm still chasing the goal. I'm only 26. I'm lighter. I've got a summer of training behind me. Friends! I'm gonna attack the rim this year! It's still my goal, still short term, to dunk the motherf**king basketball! *crowd cheers*

*crickets chirp*

*tumbleweed*

Maybe not. But it's still my goal. Still something I've always wanted to do. Still something I fully intend on doing before I get old.

My "plan" for basketball is this: I'll hoop it up in my driveway at first and see where I'm at. See if I can still shoot relatively well. Check my handle -- that's lingo for "see how well I dribble". Check out my overall conditioning. If everything is relatively good, I plan on hoofing it 3 blocks to the park by the lake, where there is almost always games going on. It's so much fun to play basketball with a big group of people. I won't know anyone -- at first. I think it'll be a good thing, though. Meeting new people, playing basketball, having fun.

I think my best chance of dunking, friends, will be in a game. The adrenaline, the hype. Bling!

Plus I've got springy shoes, now, too! Bling! Bling! Mental!

That's all I've got for now... Love you!
Eric
